Inner cv cage direction?

I have searched but cannot find a solid answer....Like title says, which direction does the taper on the inner cage go? Just picked up a 06 LT rhino and noticed it needs a rear pass side outer cv...went ahead and pulled both rear axles to check and notice the inner cages were facing different directions...by this, I'm talking about the taper on the cage, it only comes off the race one way...the driver side could pull off the axle with taper facing out(toward the diff) and the pass side taper was facing the opposite direction(away from the diff) so if I pulled it off the race, it would slide on the axle. can anyone chime in and tell me which is the correct way??
