I recently did some work for a guy and in return he traded me his 2006' rhino 660 that had been setting for afew years.
The Rhino was bought new and he only put 40 hours on it until the engine blew.
He said at the time he changed the oil in it and rode it afew miles and then the engine locked up.
He let someone take the engine apart to fix it, but ended up losing alot of parts and said it was beyond fixing. He said the engine was ruined.
"Note, This is all hear say, I have no clue what actually happened".
I pulled the engine after i traded and brought it home.
The top end and some random parts were in a box and some missing.
The bottom end didn't look scared or busted. I took a wrench and turned the crank and everything turned freely. Inside i found pieces of piston, afew rings, etc... I fished them out with a magnet and shop vac.
As for the top end,, The sleeve in the jug is busted at the bottom and the piston is destroyed.. Two valves are stuck in the open position, Bent i believe.
Cam is missing btw.
Since i'm on a low budget, I'm hoping i can flush the bottom end out.
Buy a new jug, piston, rings, gasket kit, Cam , two valves. Then complete putting the engine back together.
I've owned and worked on afew atv's before, but this is my first Rhino and i'm not familiar with them or their engines.
All of the bottom end is there and i'm pretty sure what few parts i need for the top.. But there are alot missing and might need some help to figure out what all that would be.
I'm needing to know what goes under the plastic cover on the oil fill side of the engine.. On the end of the crank. Is there suppose to be some sort of fan there?
I'll attach some photos in the next few days and hopefully someone can give me some pointers for what all is missing..
