First off, thanks to everyone giving all of the suggestions on what to take on my first trail ride. The one thing no one mentioned was another side-by-side to pull mine out of the woods!! :13:
Buddies of mine were on dirt bikes and we rode for a few hours on varying terrain in the woods. Did some small jumps, went thru mud and shallow water, and many hills. They were all impressed with how the Rhino was keeping up with them. After awhile I noticed some back-firing going on from the Rhino, especially under throttle (going up hills) - not a lot, but it was there. Continued on riding and got to some pretty steep terrain. Going up a hill headed back to camp to get some lunch and halfway up the hill the Rhino stalled. Rolled it back, cranked right back up, but everytime I put my foot into the throttle it stalled out. Gave it some choke, still wouldn't throttle forward. I have clear fuel lines and when it was cranked and running there seemed to be plenty of fuel going thru the lines and to the tank return, but any throttle would kill it. Opened up airbox - filter was clean and dry. Drained carb bowl and gas poured out, choked it to get it running again and idled just fine, but didn't like the throttle.
Finally got hold of someone to come pull me out of the woods and by the time they got there (~ 1 hour), while being pulled up the hill, a buddy of mine was able to give it (the Rhino) a little throttle while partially covering the air intake (engine cover was off at this point) and by the time we got to the top of the hill we were able to finally drive it back (without doing anything to it). Took it out later that evening and it ended up stalling again a little while into the ride.
I have looked into the vapor lock issue and purchased a new rollover valve, but thought I would get more input to possible causes.
This is what I have done so far:
- Dynatek CDI purchased used a few years ago (based on what I have read I might need to replace this)
- Rutting Rhino fuel pickup, filter, and lines installed last year
- new Alba Racing (Mikuni) fuel pump
- carb recently rebuilt (seemed pretty damn clean anyway)
- aFe dry intake filter
- new spark plug (NGK Iridium)
- stock muffler w/ aftermarket tip (I mention this bc I have seen where some have indicated re-jetting or A/F adjustments might need to be made when this is done - I have not done anything with the jetting or A/F mixture)
Any input would be greatly appreciated. We had a blast up until this happened and hope to go back in the near future, but I don't want to be stranded again.
FYI, anyone wanting to go to a decent pay-to-ride place in North Georgia, look up Moto Mountain in Fairmount (near Jasper). Had a great time and everyone there was super-nice.
